As working adults each of us will experience shifts in terms of how we find joy in what we do. The same things that may have excited us or created drive for us in our twenties may not keep us motivated in or 30’s 40’s and so on. When I was in my twenties, getting there and looking GOOD were my primary concerns. Oh and Honey, TRUST that I succeeded in all of that. I lived a very ego based life that was consumed with what fancy car would I drive, which $1500 designer bag would I rock, and which job promotion would I move into next so that I could continue to afford all of this crap and continue to “LOOK” good. The problem was, I didn’t FEEL good, at least not about my career. For years I felt STUCK in my field. No matter how many raises or promotions I received, I never felt fulfilled in my job roles. Eventually I broke free of my mental chains and started walking boldly in my purpose.
Here are a few tips on how to get UNSTUCK in your career or business.
Figure Out Your WHY
It’s difficult to navigate through life and your career if you aren’t in tune with what is truly important to you and what moves you. For many of us our family will be a huge why, and this is beyond admirable. However for you to truly activate your gift, your WHY will need to extend beyond the walls of your home. Your why should be something that can impact a community, nations, or generations to come. Here’s an example of my WHY:
“Everyday I wake up to empower women to achieve their personal greatness by learning ways to effectively monetize their personal gifts. By doing so, I help women to create the lifestyle that they love and desire. In return, I am rewarded spiritually, mentally, and financially. I ultimately impact the world by helping more people to lead happier lives.”
Figuring out your WHY is huge. It’s the first step in your process. Do NOT take this self-evaluation lightly. The book, “Instinct” by T.D. Jakes is a wonderful read that will get you pumped up for your purpose. Click HERE to enter my Instinct Giveaway.
Surround Yourself With Like Minded Individuals
You’ve heard the old African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child”. Nothing more could be true when you are birthing your vision. There is nothing new under the sun. Chances are, there people who exist that are already doing the thing that you want to do. Don’t worry about if you don’t have friends or know someone locally who is doing what you want to do. Start searching online for different groups, associations, and individuals who are doing the thing that interests you the most. By staying in community with people who have the same interests as you will allow you to see that your dream could very possibly become your reality once you take the steps to move in that direction. The Girl Just Quit Community is one group that is filled with professional women who are serious about achieving their dreams. If you fit this description, I encourage you to join our group.
Find a Mentor or Coach
I cannot over-emphasize how important it is to be in community with someone who can help you identify the opportunities that lie within your strengths while helping you stay accountable to your goals. If you have someone near your immediate circle that you admire, ask them if they would be your mentor. If you don’t have access to someone like that, then finding yourself a coach is your best bet. A coach will help you to create an action plan for yourself and help you plot out what is the best step for you to either shift your career or business. The clarity that comes along with working with a coach is invaluable. For years you’ve invested in everything else, your car, hair, shoes, purses, even your children’s education…now is the time that you should invest in YOU. If you are in need of a coach, I would love to help you. Click here to schedule a 15 minute complimentary discovery session with me.
